중도일보가 2023년 계묘년을 맞아 준비한 기획특집 ‘한국의 전통 검’이야기를 다시 시작합니다. 이번에 소개하는 검은 ‘죽장도’라는 검으로 지팡이처럼 생겼다 하여 흔히 ‘지팡이 칼’이라 불리는 검입니다. 죽장도는 임진왜란 당시 일본군에 대항했던 승병장들이 들고 다녔던 검을 말합니다. 죽장도는 평소에는 심신 수련을 목적으로 사용하다 유사시에는 무기로 사용되기도 했는데요. 죽장도는 주변에서 쉽게 구할 수 있는 대나무나 벼락 맞은 나무로 불리는 연수목(감태나무) 같은 영험한 뜻을 가진 나무로 만들었다고 합니다. 주로 민간에서 만들어져 제작 방식이나 제원은 전해지지 않고 있습니다. 사료로 남겨져 있는 문헌이나 삽화에 나온 죽장도를 국내 도검 전문가들이 재현 몇 점의 검이 전부였습니다. 국내에는 2010년에 개봉된 '구르믈 버서난 달처럼'에서 황정민 배우가 들고 나오면서 알려지기 시작했는데요. 칼의 나라 일본이나 중국이 아닌 오직 한국(조선)에만 있었던 죽장도를 대전에 위치한 도검 제작사 ‘고려도검’에서 재현했습니다. 

기존에 제작된 인위적인 대나무 모양과는 달리 이번에는 벼락을 맞은 연수목의 모양을 실물과 가장 비슷하게 재현, 복원했습니다.

Jukjangdo Island, which is left as feed, was reproduced in the document or illustration by the Goryeo sword production company located in Daejeon.

Unlike previously produced artificial bamboo shapes, this time, the shape of the lotus tree hit by lightning was reproduced and restored the most similar to the real thing
